Alcohol abuse means having drinking habits that are unhealthy or dangerous, such as drinking alcohol every day or drinking too much at a time. Alcohol abuse can ruin relationships, cause job losses and even lead to legal problems as driving under the influence of alcohol.
When alcohol is abused, the person may continue to drink even when you know that this habit is causing problems. If continued abuse of alcohol, can lead to dependence on alcohol, also called alcoholism.
When suffering from this, the person feels a strong need or urge to drink a lot, feel you can not live without a drink.
You can have alcohol dependence or alcohol can suffer if you have three or more of the following problems in a year:
1. You can not stop drinking or control the amount of alcohol you drink.
2. You need to drink more to have the same effect.
3. You have withdrawal symptoms when you stop drinking. These include feeling sick to your stomach, sweating, tremors and anxiety.
4. You’ve spent much time drinking and recovering from many alcoholic beverages you eat, or have left other activities so you can go to drink.
5. You tried to stop drinking or lower the amount of alcohol you drink, but have not succeeded.
6. Continuing to drink even if it is affecting your relationships are causing you some physical problems.
Alcoholism is a chronic disease of long duration. It is not a weakness or lack of power to control us. Like many other diseases, is a journey that can be predicted, has known symptoms and is influenced by genes and life situation.
