Dr. Loren Borud as a Harvard Asset

It is a common fact that almost all consider Harvard University as the best school in the world. Undeniably, Harvard is known for producing top-notched and highly-qualified alumni, and being part of those selected few means a lot. The University is widely recognized for its outstanding record for providing best educational courses related to business, sciences, liberal arts, law, and of course medicine. One of the prominent alumni Harvard has produced is Dr. Loren Borud. Dr. Borud is a known and respected board certified plastic surgeon. He acquired his MD degree from the Harvard Medical School. Prior to his medicine studies from Harvard, he was an undergraduate student of Stanford University – another reputable school in the United States.

Harvard students are known for being passionate towards their field of study and expertise and Dr. Loren Borud is an exception to this. Dr. Borud, in 2004, because of his commitment in studying lymphedema or elephantiasis, he co-founded the Harvard Lymphedema Clinic. Dr. Borud together with other distinguished plastic surgeons in the country researched and studied new possible methods that are relevant to treatment of lymphedema. Dr. Borud’s group was guided by Dr. Hakan Brorson, a well-known plastic surgeon from Swedish Malmo University Hospital in Sweden. Under Dr. Brorson’s guidance, Dr. Borud and his colleagues studied patients’ cases in which it helped them to study further lymphatic obstruction disorders.

Aside from co-founding Harvard Lymphedema Clinic, Dr. Loren Borud has also contributed to the University in some other aspect. While Dr. Borud was a plastic surgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, he also shared his knowledge and skills with Harvard Medical School students. He became an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University where he trained many aspiring plastic and cosmetic surgeons. While on Harvard as an assistant professor, certain surgery students were confident about Dr. Borud’s expertise that they asked him to be their advisor.

The wide knowledge of Dr. Loren Borud in the field of plastic and cosmetic surgery is not limited in the academe. His passion for researching for new ways related to the medical field, Dr. Borud founded a program dedicated in further learning body countering after massive weight loss of MWL. His research findings gained him various recognitions nationally and internationally.
Indeed Dr. Borud is one of Harvard’s notable alumni not only because of his feats but also because of his passion for excellence in his field of study.
