Exercising Muscle To Prevent Diabetes

Exercising Muscle To Prevent DiabetesThose who spend hours of their week in the gym or the weight room working out to increase muscle mass usually do for aesthetic reasons, not because they enjoy the sweat and body pain that comes after lifting weights.

However, a study at the University of California provides another motivation for the gym: the development of muscle mass may prevent type 2 diabetes.

According to this study, the greater muscle mass, lower the risk of developing insulin resistance, which often cause increased levels of glucose in the blood and thus prone to type 2 diabetes. Thus, people with a higher percentage of muscle mass are less at risk for diabetes or diabetes.

Anyway, is not yet established how much exercise is needed to prevent insulin resistance in people at risk of diabetes. This information at least provides a grain of sand on the road to prevent widespread disease and associated to cardiovascular disease.

Not only is it important to maintain a proper diet and regular exercise, but also develop at average or above (always under the supervision of a professional) our physical strength and our muscle mass.
